REVIEWS & INTERVIEWS
... a beautifully constructed, brilliantly realized new opera -
"Michael Roth has constructed a piece very much of our time. The music is high voltage (with) moments of ensemble beauty. A huge bravo to all, a real sense of wonder to the technical team’s wizardry, and a huge thanks for bringing this vital issue to consciousness via the medium of music." " ... a fascinating, compelling, fulfilling musical experience, a thought-provoking work, and worthy important venture that merits attention."

“I’ve seen thousands upon thousands of short films, I’ve never come across anything like THE WEB OPERA! An epic short film, that’s the only way I can describe it, and I’m so happy you made it!”
Matthew Toffolo - Feedback Festival - Podcast
"Roth spins out musical ideas resulting in a marriage of image and music, like a television episode featuring sung dialogue. The music has a lot of forward energy that keeps things moving, bubbling like a steady stream underneath the vocals."
Kristen Romanelli, FILM SCORE MONTHLY
"A GREAT 21ST CENTURY OPERA - it's full of fine things and is remarkably accessible. It is also an important story told very very well."
"BRAVO! Music is wonderful and performances are spot on."
"A VERY COOL CONCEPT! ... the music is terrific. I love the fact that the protagonist sings with a legit pop voice. I will definitely pass it on to the composition faculty and all of our students."
"AMAZING & GROUNDBREAKING -
if you haven't checked it out, do!"
"So unusual, yet it’s not. It’s... like a cultural feedback loop. Where you’re watching a video about someone installing a camera, watching them on their camera ... you’re on the web, detached ... watching without them knowing about it -
.....IT'S ALMOST....QUANTUM!"
"AWESOME! I can't wait for more episodes! I will show this to my music and Contemporary Opera classes!"
"... the very American-feeling music went with the clueless participation in commerce as the web-stream was set-up. Watching through the screen’s POV made the process predatory, the kids seemed innocent even when acting unethically. The technology itself seemed nefarious. The unflagging rhythm went perfectly with the hurried way we usually just click through our privacy notifications and ignore our responsibilities - spy equipment is no big deal it seems.
SUCH BIG CONSEQUENCES, SUCH THOUGHTLESS INVASIONS OF PRIVACY ..."

THE WEB OPERA is a unique experiment in music and film based on true events. A college freshman installs a webcam and starts a
chain of events that will forever impact the lives of those around him. Composer Randy Newman calls THE WEB OPERA “a great 21st century opera. It’s full of fine things and is remarkably accessible. It is also an important story told very very well.”
